Bridging the Gap between Museums and Individuals with Visual Impairments

Multisensory museum kit for the Museum of Cycladic art

The multisensory museum kit was designed for people with visual impairments and primarily the School for the Blind in Athens. The concept was that the educational material would act as the basis for a series of multi-sensory activities and information about the Ancient Cycladic Civilization in general and more specifically the marble figurines with direct and indirect references for the Cyclades and their history.

The kit contains a glossary book printed in typical and braille writing, an embroidered map of the Cyclades, a tactile water map, pebbles of different shapes and minerals, a puzzle consisting of broken parts of different figurines, pieces of foam and a replica of a marble figurine.

As the educational material we designed can be used by different kind of groups in many ways, a tutorial video was also included for the teachers and the museum educators.
